Pipestone (Catlinite) Pipes

Pipestone, also known as "catlinite" is quarried in Pipestone, MN in quarries considered sacred ground by many Native Americans.

Pipestone is soft and easy to carve, and has been used for centuries in creating Native American Inspired pipes.

Pipes are used during religious ceremonies and special occasions, ensuring that vows or agreements will never be broken. Because the pipe was frequently used to bind a treaty, it became known as the "peace pipe".

Plains
represents the most common style of pipe for general use.

Four Winds Pipes

Four Winds
design has four rings cut into the bowl, each representing a wind direction.

North:	cold winds of winter - the hardships of life
South:	warm winds of summer - the good things of life
East:	beginning of the day - the beginning of life
West:	end of the day - the end of life

Elbow Pipes

Elbow
has the widest distribution and is the style most commonly used as a personal or pleasure pipe.
